Divorce can be difficult and have a major impact on your life and your family. Having an experienced and trusted attorney to assist you make the best choices for yourself and your family helps you manage the emotional strain and create a solid foundation for your life going forward.

We will guide you through the process with confidence. Our goal is simple: To help guide you and protect what is important to you from start to finish, as your trusted advocate.

In a contested divorce, there is at least one issue over which the parties have a disagreement. The issue could be custody of the children or division of assets, just to name a few. If the disagreement can’t be settled outside of Court, then a Judge will ultimately make a decision and enter a ruling on any contested issues.

If you are facing a contested divorce, you will need an experienced attorney who can effectively advocate for you and convince the Court to enter a judgement in your favor. Call the Law Offices of Kerri Cohen, and we can start getting to work for you immediately!

In an uncontested divorce, there are no issues in dispute. In this situation, the parties just want to be divorced and they have been physically separated for over one (1) year prior to filing OR a Marital Separation Agreement has been signed and notarized. If all assets have been divided or an agreement has been reached on how to divide the assets, any issues on custody, access and child support have been determined and agreed to by the parties, and alimony has been agreed upon or waived, then the case is uncontested. At that point, the Court proceeding is streamlined, as there are no issues being contested.

If you are seeking an uncontested divorce, it is very helpful to hire an experienced divorce attorney who knows how to negotiate on your behalf to get the agreement that most suits your needs. If there are no contested issues and you have been separated for over one (1) year, we can also assist you in filing for an uncontested divorce for you in court with or without an agreement.
